Funeral of Mrs. E.D. O’Neill

Limerick: The funeral of Mrs. E.D. O’Neill, wife of Dr E.D. O’Neill of Limerick District Asylum, was held on Saturday morning from her late residence to Mount St. Lawrence Cemetery. The funeral was attended by a large and sympathetic gathering. The chief mourners were Dr E.D. O’Neill (husband), Master Desmond O’Neill (son), Mr S. McKern of Belfast (brother), and Mr J. Fitzgerald of the National Bank, Belfast (brother-in-law).

Several clergymen were present at the funeral, including Reverend Father Murphy and Reverend Father O’Shea of St. John’s, and Reverend Father Power of Mount St. Alphonsus. The medical profession was well-represented, with doctors such as Dr E. Myles, Dr T. Gelston, Dr R.P. Gelston, Dr W. Fogarty, Dr E. Fogarty, Dr H.S. Laird, Dr P.F. Grabaw, Dr J. Shanahan, Dr J. Holmes, Dr M.J. Malone, Dr J.H. Lee, Dr M.S. McGrath, and Dr F. O’Mara from Ennis Asylum in attendance.

The funeral was also attended by many members of the general public, including representatives from the Corporation and other local organizations. The large turnout reflected the high esteem in which Mrs. O’Neill was held by her community.
