In 1105, rivalry between Muirchertach Ua Briain of Munster and Domnall Ua Lochlainn of the north continued without decisive resolution. Muirchertach campaigned in Mide, expelled Donnchad Ua Máel Sechlainn, seized livestock, secured hostages and sought to reshape midland politics. Dynastic killings and deaths underlined regional instability. Armagh’s head, Domnall son of Amalgaid, attempted mediation in Dublin but died; his successor Cellach began an important, though gradual, reforming ecclesiastical leadership.
