Derryvree’s Middle Midlandian
The closest securely relevant Irish archive is Derryvree, near Maguiresbridge in County Fermanagh. Road construction in 1969 cut through a drumlin and revealed a sequence of freshwater silts, fine sands and organic material lying between two thick layers of till, the unsorted debris deposited by glacier ice. The sequence is important because its order is clear: ice affected the ground, a period followed in which freshwater and organic sediments accumulated, and glacier ice later returned to bury the evidence.
