Lissamota Castle
Lissamota Castle stands in a farmyard north of Ballingarry in County Limerick, preserving the strong form of a four-storey tower house. Remarkably, it still retains its original wall-walk and parapet, rare survivals that evoke its defensive purpose and medieval character. The castle was held by the de Lacys until 1588, when it passed to the Billingsleys, before being recaptured by its former owners in 1599. These changes reflect the turbulent political struggles of late sixteenth-century Munster. This image is constructed based on available historical information, presenting Lissamota Castle as a historically informed reconstruction of its appearance and setting today there.
