Restoration
Emerald Archives may enhance, repair, colourise or reconstruct historical images to improve clarity and public understanding. Basic restoration can reduce fading, scratches, stains or damage, while colourisation and AI assisted reconstruction involve greater interpretation where original information is missing. These treatments should never be presented as untouched historical evidence. Original source images are preserved where available, and restored or reconstructed versions should be labelled clearly. Historical accuracy, restraint and transparency guide the process. The purpose of restoration is to reveal, explain and responsibly visualise the past without disguising the difference between surviving evidence and modern interpretation.
