Accuracy
Emerald Archives researches historical information carefully, but some records begin with incomplete, conflicting or uncertain evidence. Dates may be approximate, people can remain unidentified and place names can change over time. We compare available photographs, newspapers, books, maps, directories, public records and community knowledge before presenting conclusions. Where certainty is not possible, the archive should say so rather than convert speculation into fact. Records may be corrected or expanded when stronger evidence appears. Accuracy is therefore an ongoing process: showing what is known, explaining what remains uncertain and improving the historical record as new information becomes available.
